Mayor Pro Tem Paige Ellis was elected in 2018 to represent District 8 – Southwest Austin. She flipped the only red district at the time to blue and led on progressive values like abortion logistics funding and providing free gun locks to curb gun violence and accidental shootings.

Her progressive values inspired her to lean in on housing and transportation policy early in her term. In 2020, she authored the $460 Million Active Transportation Bond subsequently approved by voters. Since then she created programs such as Healthy Streets, Clean Creeks, Multi-Family Composting, and an increase in E-Bike rebates.

She is currently Chair of the Mobility Committee, on the Nominating Committee for the Austin Transit Partnership (Project Connect’s oversight body) and also serves on the CapMetro Board of Directors.
